Veils have been used throughout history for many different reasons. The idea and tradition of the veil began with the ancient Greeks and Romans. The Greeks and Romans believed that if the bride wore a brightly colored veil, she would ward away any evil spirits and demons. Some believe the tradition of the unveiling came from the Bible story of Jacob and his two wives. Jacob was tricked into marrying Leah instead of his one true love, Rachel, because Leah was so heavily veiled. From this Bible story, the Jewish tradition of Bedeken was born. In England, in the 1800’s veils were use to show modesty and chastity. No matter what you believe, veils are a beautiful additon to any bride’s wedding day attire.
