Oh how I love streamer backdrops for a ceremony! You can take it whimsical and colorful or keep it soft and romantic, but no matter what, they make for a beautiful setting!

Get ready for a REALLY fun one!
Jessica and Alex got married at The Vista on Seward Hill in July and their wedding was colorful and cheerful… a real party. One of the components of their Custom Coordination Package was design help, and it was a joy to work with them on their beautiful and eclectic design. At the ceremony, we tied colorful ribbons on the back row of the ceremony chairs and as part of the flowers, Carly with Margot Blair Floral tied sunflowers onto the aisle chairs towards the front. Speaking of flowers, let’s take a moment and talk about Jessica’s bouquet. When we started talking about flowers, Jessica had a very specific request – she wanted a big, bright bouquet. And she got exactly what she wanted. Her bouquet was incredible! Each of her bridesmaids wore the same rust colored dress, but to make it colorful and tie the look to the ceremony decor, Jessica purchased pom-pom yarn and had each of the girls tie it around their waist as a belt. And Jessica had the same yarn around her bouquet. Now, it’s no secret that I’m a sucker for a floral crown. And luckily, Jessica is too! I think it was actually one of her favorite parts of the day, and it looked just gorgeous on her!
Inside the dinner, the linens were rust colored to match the girls’ dresses. Each of the centerpieces was different from the next, a cluster of mismatched eclectic vases with colorful groupings of flowers. And at each place-setting, we placed a madlib, a golf pencil, and some custom chocolates. Guests enjoyed the Tex-Mex dinner by Royal Fig Catering, and even though it was July in Texas, it was an amazing weather night, and many guests opted to hang out and eat in the courtyard outside.
And then, on to the dancing! In the reception spot, Jessica made a giant backdrop out of orange, blue, and white crepe paper with a glittery gold “Til Death Do Us Party” sign hanging across it as the backdrop for the cake table. Her cake matched the backdrop colors and was made for her by her really talented friend. After lots of dancing, it was time for their exit. Jessica changed into a red dress while we handed out… wait for it… KAZOOS. They exited into their waiting limo, but there was no after party for these two since they had to get up super early the next morning for their flight to Thailand for their honeymoon. Zero sympathy.

Here in Texas, one trend that will always be in style is the mason jar!
We love them here at Three Apples because they have so many uses… vases, glassware, lighting, escort cards, and on! Check out some ideas below:

I remember the first time I talked to Katie – I happened to be in Houston at my parents’ house. I got off of the phone with her after our consultation, went downstairs and told my mom “Oh my gosh, I really hope I get to work with her. She is just so awesome.” And that is a serious understatement… as I was lucky enough to find out. She is beyond awesome! And then when I met Andy during one of their trips to Austin at their favorite spot (Guero’s on South Congress), things made even more sense. He is amazing too! A doctor and a lawyer who happened to meet by chance on New Years’ Eve, fell in love, got engaged and then got married on May 19th 2012 at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in such a seriously beautiful wedding.
Katie and Andy’s style is classic romantic with a bit of a rustic and vintage twist. Erin from Rosehip Flora NAILED the flowers. The corrugated tin containers held such beautiful centerpieces, each one different. The guests kept commenting about how lovely they were – natural, beautiful, delicate, amazing. And Katie’s bouquet was beyond perfect! We had been pinning pictures throughout the planning process, and Erin got it exactly right. They said their vows under an arbor from Loot Vintage decorated by Erin inside the Visitor’s Gallery. Cocktail Hour followed in the Butterfly Garden, and then guests returned to the Courtyard for dinner and dancing. Word of Mouth Catering provided the delicious food and drinks (loved the custom named cocktail The Huxtable to represent a doctor marrying a lawyer – too cute) On each table, we had vintage salad plates (Loot again!) to bring that delicate feel to each place setting. The table numbers were another personal touch for the couple – each number told a story about them. Examples: “14: The day in May Andy proposed to Katie” or “225: Miles Katie and Andy drove every weekend from Austin to Corpus Christi to see each other.” After dinner, there were delish cupcakes by Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop and then the dancing started – enter Memphis Train Revue, one of my favorite bands. They know how to keep a dance floor going! So much fun!
And then at the end, Katie and Andy exited through a flurry of waving flags in the college colors – Clemson (orange and purple) and Auburn (orange and navy blue).
Finally, can we take a moment and talk about Katie’s dress? I mean… I’m a Jenny Packham fan (understatement), and Katie’s dress is exactly why. BEYOND GORGEOUS.

Lindsey and Jorge are so cool – from the moment I met them, I knew that a fun wedding was in the works – a meaningful and beautiful ceremony, delicious food, LOTS of dancing. And to make it really unique and really their own, their wedding was a fusion of two cultures, Mexican and Jewish – think Mariachis for the ceremony, the Hora during the reception.
Lindsey and Jorge got married at Umlauf Sculpture Garden in late October. Just before the ceremony, they signed the Ketubah – a lovely piece of artwork in and of itself – it had three languages on it. The traditional Hebrew text, the translation in English, and also a beautiful sentiment in Spanish: “Yo soy para mi amado y mi amado es para mi.” They walked down the aisle to music played by Mariachi Tamazula and said I Do under a beautiful and colorful Chuppah quilted together with pieces from family and friends. Following the ceremony, their guests headed to Cocktail Hour in the gardens with the Mariachi music continuing among the sculptures. Their appetizers were another representation of the fusion of their families – guests enjoyed selections like Chipotle Sweet Potato Latkes and Matzo Ball Sopa Shooters by Pink Avocado. Once portraits were done and everyone had taken their seats in the Pavilion, Lindsey and Jorge entered and went straight into their first dance – and this caught me by surprise. Now, I knew that Lindsey and Jorge had met at Copa while dancing, so I knew they were dancers, but maaaaaan, they know how to MOVE! Theirs was a seriously awesome first dance to “Un Beso.” After dancing and then breaking the Challah, they sat for a yummy family style meal.
During our first meeting, they mentioned that they specifically chose their DJ because they wanted an amazing dance floor – enter Miles with Texas Pro DJ. This is a guy who can get everyone out of their seats and KEEP them out of their seats all night! And he did! The dance floor was packed from start to finish. And it’s a good thing that the couple had made arrangements for an after party (at Copa, of course!) because even when it was time for the wedding to end, no one had had enough dancing just yet! Congrats to Lindsey and Jorge!

We were lucky to be one of the vendors participating in an Open House yesterday at Le San Michele! If you’ve never been to Le San Michele, it’s a gem of a venue tucked away in Buda, and the moment you step in, it feels like you’ve been transported to a garden in Europe!
We had a great time hanging out with some seriously talented Austin wedding vendors – Katherine O’Brien, Heather Curiel, Shanna and Michael of Nostalgia Film, and Natasha of EcoChic Floral.
Thank you so much to all of the lovely couples who stopped by and CONGRATULATIONS again!
Check out a few highlight photos from the afternoon taken by Katherine O’Brien. (Special thanks to Loot Vintage for lending us the super cute doctor’s drawers and a few other beautiful vintage pieces for our display!)
Emily and Byron are SUCH a sweet couple! I loved working with both of them and their families!
They were married in September at St. John Neumann Catholic Church – a seriously beautiful and impressive Church. The wide shot of the ceremony is really incredible. Emily looked so beautiful in her frothy tulle-skirted A-line dress!
After the ceremony, it was time for some fun! The reception was held at the Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel. I love a surprise at a wedding, and Emily arranged for a really nice one for her new husband – a cigar roller! It was fun keeping the secret from Byron, sending two versions of timelines and layouts to review (one with and one without the cigar information), and even telling him to go and walk around the hotel for a few minutes during our final walkthrough. It was a unique touch to have Bobalu Cigar Co rolling cigars with custom labels on the balcony of the hotel! Another fun coincidence – the day of their wedding happened to be the same day as the Austin Gay Pride Parade! So during the reception, Congress Ave happened to be already closed off to traffic, but the parade hadn’t quite started yet, which made for a really great photo opportunity!
Tunes Across Texas kept the dance floor full (you know it’s going to be a great dance floor when the family provides flip flops – that means you’re expected to party!), and Sugar Mamas Bakeshop creations are always delish! (Loved the crane hoisting up the Texas Tech logo)
Huge congratulations to Emily and Byron!

You know how people always talk about marrying their best friend? Well Kathryn and Brian exemplify that. These two are amazing, and their connection is so perfect that “perfect” doesn’t cover it. We could never get through five minutes of meeting without falling into crazy laughter. Their banter is like what you see in old Hollywood movies, a back and forth worthy of Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. And that’s actually really fitting since when we first started talking about their vision for their wedding, Kathryn used the word “Classic” over and over. She described a beautiful, timeless, elegant wedding. Classic classic classic.
You really can’t ask for a more romantic venue than the Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria. Set on the water, every piece of the venue is just stunning from the amphitheater where they said “I do” up to the Villa and the perfectly manicured gardens where they celebrated with their friends and family.
Can we talk about how gorgeous Kathryn looked in her dress? Her portraits look like a photo shoot! I think my favorite is of her amongst all the greenery. Such a stunner.
For her flowers, Kathryn chose reds, blues, and purples for her color scheme, and Coby Neal and The Flower Studio knocked it out of the park. And family style was the right way to go for their dinner – so many wonderful conversations could be heard amongst all their friends enjoying the delicious food by Primizie Catering.
One thing you learn quickly about Kathryn and Brian when you talk to them is just how much they LOVE dogs. They owned two sweet rottweilers Blue and Marley who were a big part of their lives – so sadly, both dogs passed away recently. In fact, Brian sped up his proposal so that both Blue and Marley could be a part of it. And Kathryn’s blue sapphire engagement ring is way to honor their sweet pup. I love that Kathryn and Brian chose to incorporate their loves into their wedding on their cake, beautiful designed by Blue Note Bakery! And actually, a few months before the wedding, they adopted a foster dog named Peter, a rambunctious little fellow, who was also on the cake, secretly on the back running behind the other two to catch up. SO sweet.
To keep the classic feel going, Kathryn and Brian’s reception music was provided by the Nash Hernandez Orchestra. Just amazing. And man can this couple MOVE. Kathryn’s dress, as beautiful as it already is in the portraits, looked even more incredible in motion. I love the dancing shots!
From start to finish, Amelia Tarbet‘s photos perfectly capture Kathryn and Brian’s October wedding. Two amazing people at their gorgeously classic wedding photographed so beautifully. Adore the Krellensteins!
Doilies are a fun way to add a delicate, vintage touch to a wedding! You can incorporate them into your design in a myriad of ways! Take a look at a few ideas:
